MENTAL AND PHYSICAL COMORBIDITY
People with severe mental disorders have been found to have a much lower life expectancy than the general population. This program of work within the Mental Health Policy and Services Research (MH-PASR) stream aims to investigate excess mortality and interventions to improve physical health in people with mental disorders.
Research in the area of excess mortality includes follow up studies on causes of death in people with mental disorders, and evaluating the impact of prevention and treatment programs on suicide rates.
Physical Health Interventions
Research in the area of physical health interventions includes review and evaluation of interventions to improve physical health screening, monitoring and treatment and to reduce premature mortality due to chronic diseases in people with severe mental disorders.
