Overview

Dr Alize Ferrari leads the Psychiatric Epidemiology and Burden of Disease Team (PEABOD) at QCMHR. She is an NHMRC Early Career Fellow and holds affiliate positions with the School of Public Health at The University of Queensland and the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.  She completed her PhD in December 2014 at The University of Queensland, examining the global distribution, risk factors, outcomes, and burden of major depressive disorder.

Alize’s role within PEABOD is to oversee the work undertaken by this research stream in investigating the global distribution, risk factors, outcomes and burden of mental and substance use disorders. This includes work undertaken for the mental and substance use disorders featured in the yearly iterations of the Global Burden of Disease Studies led by the University of Washington. She is personally responsible for the estimation of disease burden for depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders; and their impact on health outcomes such as suicide. Alize consults on various state, Commonwealth and international projects related to psychiatric epidemiology and global burden of disease. She is an independent reviewer for various academic journals and is available to supervise research higher degree students interested in projects related to psychiatric epidemiology.
