Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) Pilot Study

Fibroblast cell lines have been established from skin biopsies of two schizophrenia patients with documented copy number variants (CNVs) and two age and sex matched controls. These cells are currently being re-programmed to produce iPSCs. Neurons will then be derived from the characterised iPSCs. This recent and developing technology could provide the means to study specific living brain cells as opposed to other accessible cell types (e.g. Patient blood cells, post mortem brain tissue, animal models) all of which have a number of inherent difficulties.
